601–1,200 574
501–600 20,784
491–500 12,590
481–490 12,426
471–480 16,105
461–470 16,163
451–460 14,823
441–450 13,657
431–440 13,300
421–430 12,064
411–420 11,506
401–410 11,033
351–400 46,782
301–350 17,240
0–300 7,746

Provincial Nominee Program

Canadian Experience Class

Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience

Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience

Express Entry

  3. CEC·FSW·FST

Full English Version

As of September 13, 2026, the Express Entry pool contained 226,793 candidates, including 20,784 candidates in the 501–600 CRS range. Those numbers are useful, but they do not tell you by themselves what CRS score will receive an invitation next. In the days immediately after that snapshot, IRCC held different rounds for the Provincial Nominee Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and senior managers with Canadian work experience. Your CRS therefore has to be read together with which round you can actually qualify for and whether you can document the points and category requirements you are claiming.

Short answer: the September 2026 pool still contains a substantial number of high-scoring candidates, but a CEC cut-off cannot be used as a universal benchmark for every Express Entry candidate. The September 13 pool snapshot was followed by a PNP draw on September 14, a CEC draw on September 15, and a category-based draw for senior managers with Canadian work experience on September 16.

What did the Express Entry pool look like on September 13?

IRCC’s pool distribution is a snapshot of active profiles grouped into CRS score bands. The September 13, 2026 snapshot contained 226,793 candidates.

The main score bands were:

CRS range Candidates
601–1,200 574
501–600 20,784
491–500 12,590
481–490 12,426
471–480 16,105
461–470 16,163
451–460 14,823
441–450 13,657
431–440 13,300
421–430 12,064
411–420 11,506
401–410 11,033
351–400 46,782
301–350 17,240
0–300 7,746

There were 21,358 candidates at CRS 501 or above when the 501–600 and 601+ groups are combined. There were 33,948 at 491 or above, 46,374 at 481 or above, and 62,479 at 471 or above.

These cumulative numbers still have limits. IRCC publishes ranges, not the exact rank of every score. If your CRS is 487, for example, the table does not show how many people within the 481–490 band are above 487.

Why can’t you simply subtract future ITAs from the number of people above your score?

A common approach is to count the candidates above your CRS and then assume that enough future invitations will eventually move the cut-off down to you. Express Entry does not work that mechanically.

First, not every round draws from the same candidate population. CEC-specific, PNP-specific and category-based rounds target different eligible groups.

Second, the pool changes continuously. New profiles enter, other profiles expire, and existing candidates can gain or lose points because of language results, additional work experience, education, marital status, provincial nominations or other profile changes.

Third, PNP candidates affect the upper score bands differently. An Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points after acceptance, so candidates in the 601+ band can include provincial nominees.

Fourth, score bands hide the order within the band. Knowing that 12,426 candidates were in the 481–490 range does not tell a candidate at 481 where they rank relative to a candidate at 490.

The pool distribution is therefore a measure of competitive pressure, not a formula that predicts the next cut-off.

What changed between August 30 and September 13?

The total pool increased by only 120 profiles during that period, but the movement within individual score bands was much larger.

The 501–600 band increased from 19,542 to 20,784, an increase of 1,242 candidates. At the same time, the 471–500 range declined by 2,085 candidates in total:

  • 471–480: 16,981 to 16,105
  • 481–490: 13,273 to 12,426
  • 491–500: 12,952 to 12,590

It would be too strong to conclude that all of those candidates left because they received invitations. Draws, new profiles, expired profiles and score changes can all alter the distribution.

The practical point is that a nearly unchanged total pool can still experience meaningful movement in the upper score ranges. An old pool snapshot should not be treated as a current ranking chart.

What happened after the September 13 snapshot?

Three different rounds followed in quick succession.

September 14: Provincial Nominee Program

IRCC issued 576 invitations in a PNP-specific round with a lowest invited CRS of 734.

That does not mean an ordinary CEC candidate needs 734. Candidates who accept an Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination receive 600 additional CRS points, so PNP-specific cut-offs operate in a different scoring context.

September 15: Canadian Experience Class

IRCC issued 2,000 invitations in a CEC-specific round with a lowest invited CRS of 519.

This is much more directly relevant to candidates competing through CEC, but 519 was the cut-off for that particular round. It is not a guaranteed target for the next CEC draw. Future cut-offs can change with draw size, timing and the number of new high-scoring profiles entering the pool.

September 16: Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience

IRCC issued 250 invitations in the Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category, with a lowest invited CRS of 389.

This does not mean every Express Entry candidate with CRS 389 was invited. Candidates had to meet the separate category requirements. Under IRCC’s current criteria, this category requires qualifying Canadian work experience in designated senior-manager occupations, in addition to eligibility for at least one Express Entry program and the requirements set out for the round.

How should you compare a CEC cut-off of 519 with a category cut-off of 389?

You should not compare them as if they were two versions of the same competition.

The CEC cut-off of 519 was the lowest score among candidates invited in that CEC-specific round. The CRS 389 result applied to candidates who first met the Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category requirements and were then ranked within that eligible group.

A lower category-based cut-off therefore does not mean that category eligibility is easier. The opposite may be true for many people: the CRS threshold can be lower because entry into that eligible group is narrower.

The same principle applies to other category-based rounds, including French-language proficiency, healthcare and social services, education, transport, researchers and physicians.

For a candidate with CRS 470, the more useful questions are:

  1. Which underlying Express Entry program—CEC, FSW or FST—am I eligible for?
  2. Do my language skills, occupation or Canadian work experience fit a current category?
  3. Does my actual work history match the required NOC duties?
  4. Do I meet the required duration and location of experience?
  5. Is an Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination realistic?
  6. Which CRS factors can I realistically improve, and on what timeline?

What should candidates in different CRS ranges review?

If you are in the low 500s or above

Recent CEC rounds give you a more direct point of comparison, but document readiness still matters. An ITA is not the end of the assessment. You must be able to support the profile information and CRS points with acceptable evidence.

Review employment letters, payroll and tax records where relevant, language test validity, ECA validity, family information and past immigration history. Also watch for score changes caused by birthdays, expiring test results, changes in work experience or marital status.

If you are in the 470–499 range

Do not look only at the gap between your CRS and the latest CEC cut-off. Review category-based selection and PNP options at the same time.

Check whether your occupation is currently listed, whether the category requires Canadian experience or also accepts foreign experience, whether French could materially change your options, and whether a provincial pathway fits your profile.

A score close to 500 is not a reason to assume that an invitation is imminent simply because the 491–500 band is smaller than it was two weeks earlier.

If you are in the 450–469 range

It may be important to broaden the strategy beyond waiting for a CEC cut-off. Compare language retesting, French, spouse factors, additional qualifying work experience, provincial nomination and category eligibility.

The question is not only whether a score can theoretically be increased, but whether the improvement is realistic before key documents or status expire.

If you are below 450

A structural review may be more useful than focusing only on incremental CRS gains.

Depending on the facts, that can include category eligibility, French, PNP pathways, future Canadian work experience, spouse-point configuration or education. A low cut-off in one category should not be treated as a shortcut: IRCC still checks the category’s actual occupation and work-experience requirements.

What documents should you review while you are still in the pool?

A competitive CRS score is useful only if the information behind it can be supported after an invitation.

Review:

  • valid English and French test results and expiry dates;
  • your ECA and its validity if you rely on foreign education;
  • exact start and end dates and weekly hours for each period of work;
  • whether employer reference letters can describe duties that match the correct NOC;
  • payroll, tax, contract and other records that support the claimed work;
  • Canadian study, work and immigration history;
  • current spouse, partner and dependent information;
  • work, address and education history disclosed in earlier immigration applications; and
  • any separate PNP or category-based requirements you intend to rely on.

A CRS calculator result and an IRCC decision to award those points based on your evidence are not the same step.

Common mistakes when reading Express Entry pool data

“The next CEC draw should also be around 519.”
There is no guarantee. One cut-off does not predict the next round.

“There are more than 20,000 candidates above 500, so a score below 500 is useless.”
Not necessarily. Different round types can involve different eligible populations.

“A category draw reached 389, so 389 is enough for PR.”
No. The candidate must first meet the separate eligibility requirements for that category.

“If I subtract the number of ITAs from the number of people above me, I can calculate the next cut-off.”
The pool changes and different rounds draw from different groups, so that calculation is unreliable.

“My job title looks similar to a category occupation, so I qualify.”
IRCC can examine the NOC classification, actual duties, duration and location of qualifying work.

A practical review sequence

If you already have an Express Entry profile, a useful sequence is:

  1. Recalculate your CRS using current facts.
  2. Verify that you can document each point you are claiming.
  3. Reconfirm your underlying CEC, FSW or FST eligibility.
  4. Check the current 2026 category-based selection criteria.
  5. Review PNP options separately.
  6. Calendar expiry dates for language tests, ECA, work permits and passports.
  7. Cross-check work, education, family and immigration history before an ITA arrives.

IRCC’s Express Entry rounds and pool distribution and category-based selection criteria should be checked again before relying on a particular strategy because the pool and invitation rounds continue to change.

Yujin Visa Immigration’s Permanent Residence and Express Entry service page explains the broader review of CRS, program eligibility, work-history evidence, category-based selection and PNP options.

Final takeaway

The September 13, 2026 Express Entry pool contained 226,793 candidates, including 21,358 at CRS 501 or above. The 501–600 band had increased by 1,242 since August 30, while the combined 471–500 bands had declined by 2,085.

But that snapshot was followed by a PNP draw on September 14, a CEC draw on September 15 and a Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category draw on September 16, each with different eligibility rules and cut-offs.

The most useful question is therefore not simply “What CRS score is enough?” It is “Which invitation rounds can I actually qualify for, and can I prove both my CRS points and my eligibility with the right documents?”
